Letters to Juliet : Review

Gary Winick’s new movie Letters to Juliet, plays of the typical romance movies where boy meets girl, loses her, and wins her back just in the nick of time. Sophie (Amanda Seyfried ) travels to Verona, Italy with her fiancĂ© for a pre-honeymoon get away. However, since her soon to be husband plans to open a restaurant, his plan all along is to travel to Italy to taste wine and different foods.
After a few days in Verona, Sophie comes across this shrine to Juliet (Romeo and Juliet) where women across the world leave letters for advice. In the process of discovering the wall, she always finds four Italian ladies who call themselves the Secretaries of Juliet. These women personally respond to each and every letter on the wall.
When offered to help respond to a letter, Sophie discovers a touching letter from a 50 year old women. Two days after she responds, Claire (Vanessa Redgrave), arrives with her grandson Charlie (Christopher Egan), to discover the person who finally responded back to her letter and to hopefully find her lost love .
The three then go on a road trip to find this guy Claire has been longing for. After a few quarrels, between Sophie and Charlie, they begin to fall for each other. They both forgot the fact that Sophie was still engaged to be married.
Disgusted by her actions, Sophie rushes home to her disheartened engagement in New York. But, she doesn’t stay for long; she realizes her heart should be in Italy with Charlie.
The end to letters to Juliet could have been more thought out. It was the ending of all love stories, the ending that you could guess, the ending that you just get tired of. The movie ended with Taylors swift single, “ Love Story” and the couple Kissing.

America's Best & Worst "Health" Drinks

David Zinczenko writes about the best and worst health drinks. He labels, snapples, SoBe Green, Arizona Rx Energy, and Smoothie King Peanut Power Plus Grape as the worst unhealthy drinks.

However, most people do not look at the nutrients list. The thing that catches their attentions is commercials and the package label.

For example, I did relay for life and stayed up all night. How did I possible do that? I drank Monster energy drinks. I did not really care, about if it was healthy or not. The thing that matter was that it tasted good.

Journey’s End: John Galliano On Showing Dior Resort in Shanghai

Christian Dior premiered his 2011 resort collection in Shanghai, where he mixed New York, Paris, and an exotic theme. Dior said that he wanted to create a modern, young and fresh energy that could represent his collection.

However, he captured everything except for modern. The clothes were great when it came to present, but his choice of models were poorly. All the models that walked the runway, were slim and tall, with a Barbie look.
Now a days, thin is just not a part of the world. If he wanted to be more modern, he should have picked models in all different sizes. (I understand designers want models to be like a size 0 but really? This is discriminating against all young girls. )

In the fashion world, models represent the ideal of beauty. When the truth is, no one is actually that size. In my opinion, this just lowers young adults self esteem, making them feel unhappy about their weight. (Bulimia and anorexia is not the key to happiness). So, live your life the way you want and not how the media wants you to. ( :

Response to Mark Holgate: Favorite Proenza Schouler look

A girl who surfs, recently walked in Proenza Schouler spring collection fashion show. She came right from surfing and throw on her outfit, while her hair remained wet but classy. Mark Holgate blogged that this show was a " Surf Couture." She wore a tie-dyed long sleeve tee-shirt underneath a playful dress. This outfit is magnificent, since we leave close to the shore, many people go surfing when the weather breaks. Why not, leave the beach in a outfit that looks fashionable? This urban scuba outfit just shouts surfer, but also it can be an elegant wardrobe to go somewhere after the beach.

Flirty Styles for the Spring

Fashion is not just a name we throw around every day. It is a symbol of uniqueness and popularity. This 2010, spring is bringing a bright, bold, and spontaneous clothes the public. This season designers are playing with color and are doubling up on animal prints and patterns.

Years ago many people would have thought putting two different prints together would look tacky and clash. But, I am here to tell you it is a new year, new you, new style. So, stop dressing safe and make a statement.

How about wearing a skinny cut button down shirt? Or what about a lacy top? These shirts give you a feminine offbeat charming look. But, that is not the only thing in style. Minidresses, extremely bright neon pants and a cropped jacket. It gives you a simple delicate flirty look. You can sport these outfits anywhere, to school, to dinner, to parties and etc.

What colors to get these outfits in? This 2010 spring, designers choose numerous colors that would bring out the best in the consumers. The colors vary from bright red, blue, pastel, and neutral colors. (Neutral as in colors that are similar to the shade of your skin.) So, mix match until you find a good looks good on you.

Along with these marvelous outfits, you can get accessories. Lots of bangles and animal bracelets on your wrist is hip. Bow headbands also, these headbands make your hair stand out and pop. But, when purchasing a headband make sure its a oversized bow but not to kiddish.

As for the shoes go, high heels, flats, and sneakers are in style. I feel that they will always be in style, simply because you need shoes. Just make sure you get shoes that fit your comfortably and you are able to walk in them. Believe me, not having shoes is disgusting, dangerous, and pretty much uncomfortable. If, you are looking for shoes that goes with every outfit, my best guess is to purchase high heels or flats. I say this because wearing sneakers with a dress is horrific. It looks repulsive and it is not setting a trend, so do not do it.

Now, that you have the latesst flirty trends, you are ready to go to the store and buy a spring wardrobe.

Response to Mark Holgate: Mark Holgate’s Favorite Altuzarra Look

In most of the spring collections, you will find more dresses, and less suits. The temperature in many places are starting to increase and girls as well as women are starting to show more skin. Fashion designer Joseph Altuzarra’s collection took a bold statement to the runway, when he introduced suits. Not dressy suits, but casual every day suits. Mark Holgate blogged about women just not wearing dresses but now and then wearing a couple of jackets. He’s not saying to go out and find the heavy’s jacket you can wear. No, instead just put on a nice thin fitted jacket. Definitely in New Jersey where the weather is not constant. For example, one week its 80 degrees and the next week its in the 50s. So, instead of getting sick in this weather, why not throw on an easy to grab and go jacket? You can wear it to school, to work, or even to special events. In may opinion, its worth the money.

Fashion Lies Within

Fashion is not just a name we through around every day. It’s a symbol of uniqueness and popularity. But, what is the real definition of fashion? I’ll tell you, fashion is a prevailing style. Everyone tends to follow the same fashion sense as the media. For example, the reality TV show the “Jersey Shore,” displayed tanning as well as the “poof,” or “blow out” hair. Now that spring has arrived and summer is on its way, mostly everyone in New Jersey just has to get a tan or the same hair style as the Guido’s.

But, who really declares fashion trends? Personally, I think anyone can set a trend. All you have to do is throw together different garments, and/or do edgy make-up or hair styles. For, instance pop singer Rihanna went with an edgy hair cut. She went from long classy hair, to a short rock star look. Now everyone is cutting their hair. I must admit, I recently cut my hair. Not as short as Rihanna’s but it is shorter than before. Short hair is in style this spring 2010.

However, even though I feel anyone can set a trend. I highly doubt I would be the first to start a new look. Imagine yourself wearing an outrages outfit, into a crowd of people. The crowd will actually stop, look, and point you out just to discuss what you’re wearing. But, that’s all about setting a trend. It has to be fierce
(I use the word fierce as stunning and not violent) statement. Lady Gaga is one of those trend setters. She pushes the limit of fashion to the extreme. Gaga does not care what individuals think of her, and yet her fashion is fabulous. You might not wear it on an everyday basic, but it does fit in on the runway, on the carpet, or the stage.

At Red Bank Regional High School, there a two types of fashion. Some people decide to follow the media, while other starts to create their own. The ones that create their own get many stares and attention from other students. Recently, a girl decided to wear a costume that represented the Buccaneer. As, I walked down the hallway behind her, I heard a couple of kids giggling “Ehww why is she wearing that.” The truth is she wore it because she wants to make a statement, she wants to be trend setter, she wants to be unique, and lastly she wants to create her own identity.

Everyone feels that the media is the ideal fashion. They set the colors that are in style, the trendy outfits, the fabulous hair, and the fierce accessories. But, really fashion lies within oneself. Either you want to grab people’s attention or go with the flow. Just know, either way someone will happen to stare at you and admire your outfit from a distance. So, walk with your head high and strut your stuff!

The Urge to Bankruptcy

Fashion is not a word we throw around every day. It's a symbol of uniqueness and popularity. The spring is here and the summer is on the way, so has the urge hit you? The desire to trade in your long sleeves and boots in for a new style. I know the urge has hit me, but I am to spend my money wisely and so should you. I am here to give you tips and advice on how to catch the bargains.
Many stores have advertisements to grab your attention and lure you into the store. But, do the stores tell you the truth about the clothing? My guess is NO! I am not telling you, that you can't go shopping because I absolutely love and adore shopping. Just be careful what you decide to bring to the checkout line.
Trust me, I knew once you walk through those doors it’s just like you’re a kid in a candy store. The different colors and designs, makes you want to try on absolutely everything.
However the economy is down and a lot of people are out of jobs. So, it is time to put down the expensive bag and shop smartly. What am I talking about?
For one, know what you want before you even walk in the store. For example, you’re going to a party on Saturday and you want to find a nice outfit. Decide if you want it to be casual or formal; if you want it to be a dress or pants. By, deciding what you want before you go, saves time and you won't walk around the store, being tempted to buy different garments.
Secondly, do not, I repeat do not, go to the expensive racks. The same things that are on those racks are mostly likely going to have the same version or a similar version on the clearance rack. By, taking a walk to the clearance racks, you’re making a life time change. You’re saving money for the present as well as the future.
Last and third step, decrease the items you buy. You don't have to go you the store and buy 20 items. (Just breathe in and out.) Put a price range on how much you want to spend. Also, if you put a price range, please do not go over your budget. And, if it helps you should leave your credit cards at home and bring cash.
Shopping can be extremely fun and it also can be aggravating. It depends on how you decide to shop. If you follow those three steps, it will be a new fun experience. Remember, shopping can be your best friend or your nightmare. You chose what you want it to be!

Response to Mark Holgate's Blog: New York Spring 2010: Mark Holgate’s Favorite Boy by Band of Outsiders Look

Is it okay for girl's to wear men's clothing? Recently Mark Holgate blogged about Scott Sternberg's new summer collection. Sternberg wanted to have a fun funky showcase for his new collection. So, instead of his female models just wearing dresses, he matched them with men's jackets and tee-shirts. ( A picture of his collection is at the top right of the blog.) However, some people put a stereotype on what girls should or shouldn't wear. They feel all girls should wear clothes that fit them properly and not baggy garments. I strongly disagree with that statement. Why can't girls adventure out in their clothes department and go look in the men's section. Some guy's do it all the time with their tight fitting skinny jeans and tight shirts. I believe Sternberg's idea is brilliant, he links both sexes together.

Response to Mark Holgate: Cerruti Fall 2010

Even though fall is two more seasons away, Mark Holgate and the fashion industry has chosen the color that would be in style. According to Holgate any shades of blue will work for fall. But, how could someone chose a color so soon for a season that is not even half way here, with spring just beginning? The Netflix queue Three Colors: Blue, which you repeatedly receive in the mail, has inspired fashion designers. The pale colors that you usually see in fall will now be blended in with shades of blue. With one word from the fashion designers in Paris, I guaranteed that everyone will decide to wear more blue. Yes, blue is already in style but it is not as flossy now as it will be during fall 2010. I say this simple because everyone follows the trend that is in style. If fashion designers and celebrities did not wear pea coats, most likely teenagers would not sport them. The only people that would have been sporting them last winter were businessman and women. So, here is a head start to your wardrobe for fall 2010.

Ugg Boots Causing Chaos Among Teenagers

Fashion is not just another name we throw around every day. It’s a symbol of uniqueness and popularity. But, can fashion cause major health problems? The unisex sheepskin boots, lined with wool in the inside also known as Ugg boots are slowly breaking your foot. What can I possibly be talking about? Well, recently health experts have issued an article discussing the dangers of wearing the boots. The experts have noted whether they are real Uggs or the knock offs they are causing your arch in your foot to flatten.
Some may say what the big deal is. As long as the boots are cozy, comfortable, warm, easy to fit in, and match any outfit. I must admit I was among the crowd who could care less. I own a few Uggs and probably wear them every day. From a consumer’s point of view, they are incredible; they allow you to do just about anything in them. For example, they’re customized for different seasons. The Ugg Company now makes boots, high heels, flip-flops and sneakers. So, you can go for walks, take a jog, wear them to school or even work.
However, research has led the experts to come to the conclusion that the shoes mess up your feet, your ankle, and ultimately you’re hip. Will people still continue to wear Ugg’s? Honestly, I am not going to stop wearing my Uggs. When I brought them I was aware of the consequences. I know that they did not have any type of support. Anyone can notice that just by taking a glance at them.
Recently, after everyone read the article posted on numerous sites such as yahoo, google, aol, and etc, they have been making a huge fuss out of it. Many teenagers at Red Bank Regional High School have come to the conclusion that they will no longer wear their Uggs. But, why? Ugg boots retail for $140 and up. These teenagers spent a lot of money on these shoes, only to say they are not going to wear them after reading facts on an article that was already known.
If my peers had a good cause to stop wearing them, then I simply would agree. Why not stop wearing them, because innocent sheep are being killed to produce these particular boots. If, they felt that they had no support, then they shouldn’t have brought them from the start.
My point for all of this is that the article was only stating what consumers already know. These experts are creating chaos among these teenagers for no reason.

Response to Mark Holgate

Mark Holgate is simply stating what’s in and what’s out of fashion. According to him Logos and betraying the identity of bags are clearly out. Holgate’s opinion is right in a way. If you walk down the halls at Red Bank Regional High School most likely girls are sporting a plain color bag that zips up. If it does have a logo or name brand, it is written inside the bags. However, few girls are still wearing Coach or Chanel bags where the logo is printed all across the bag. I feel you will never, not see Coach or Chanel bags. They are the most worldwide bag out of all the designers. They might not be as popular now but I ensure you, if you look into crowd at least one person will have a Chanel or Coach.

THE FASHION POLICE OF 2010: WHAT WE LEARN ABOUT STYLES

Fashion is not just another name we throw around every day. It’s a symbol of uniqueness and popularity. There are many do’s and don’ts to the fashion world. Teenagers today look to the media for different styles. But, honestly some celebrities are on the don’ts list.
The Oscars was held on Sunday March 7 2010 at eight o’clock in Kodak Theater, Hollywood California . Yes celebrities got nominated for different categories and won statue trophies. But is that the really what the Oscars are about? No, the audience tunes in to watch the red carpet. Well, at least people who are interested in fashion.
All the nominees dressed up in formal wear and strutted down the red carpet to talk to Ryan Seacrest and Giuliana Rancic. They discussed what they got nominated for and their emotions. While Seacrest and Rancic drilled in numerous questions about their dresses and suits.
Singer Jennifer Lopez looked absolutely gorgeous in a white elegant dress by Giorgio Armani, she was truly radiant. I must say its pretty hard to wear white on the carpet. Not everyone, could pull it off. Like Diane Kruger, who plays in National Treasures. The dress she chose to wear was black and white with lots of ruffles.
But she wasn’t the only one that chose poorly for the Oscars. Zoe Saldana, from Avatar wore a pastel dress with excessive ruffles. (Put those together, and well it’s a major train wreck.)
Now moving on to the men. Chris Pine, actor in Star Trek wore a classic well portioned tux. Taylor Lautner from twilight looked absolutely dashing. While Jake Gyllenhaall, who played in Brokeback Mountain tried
his best by wearing a small bow tie and a pocket square. He sort of looked like James Bond.
But hands down, Robert Downey Jr. from Iron Man, in my opinion was the worst dressed for males. What was he thinking when he put on that turquoise bow tie, sunglasses, and sneakers? Not a good look for the red carpet may I say.
boy, the fashion police had some laughs about 2010’s red carpet look.)
According to Joan Rivers, Jeff bridges looks like Colonel Sanders from KFC. While her co-hosts laugh she said, “ when they gave him his Oscars they gave him a bucket of fried chicken.”
Incase you wondering, the fashion police isn’t just on E! news. Red Bank Regional High School has their own personal fashion police. What am I talking about? Every teenage girl in the halls has to at least comment on someone’s appearance or outfit. It might be every girl but some guys do it too. The most famous line for the genders is, “Oh my gosh what are they wearing.”
Truthfully, the halls at RBRHS is like a mini red carpet without the cameras. Teenagers wear a variety of clothes whether it is do’s or don’ts. So, be alert for the fashion police the next time you walk down the halls, they might just be watching you from a distance.
