Ugg Boots Causing Chaos Among Teenagers

Fashion is not just another name we throw around every day. It’s a symbol of uniqueness and popularity. But, can fashion cause major health problems? The unisex sheepskin boots, lined with wool in the inside also known as Ugg boots are slowly breaking your foot. What can I possibly be talking about? Well, recently health experts have issued an article discussing the dangers of wearing the boots. The experts have noted whether they are real Uggs or the knock offs they are causing your arch in your foot to flatten.
Some may say what the big deal is. As long as the boots are cozy, comfortable, warm, easy to fit in, and match any outfit. I must admit I was among the crowd who could care less. I own a few Uggs and probably wear them every day. From a consumer’s point of view, they are incredible; they allow you to do just about anything in them. For example, they’re customized for different seasons. The Ugg Company now makes boots, high heels, flip-flops and sneakers. So, you can go for walks, take a jog, wear them to school or even work.
However, research has led the experts to come to the conclusion that the shoes mess up your feet, your ankle, and ultimately you’re hip. Will people still continue to wear Ugg’s? Honestly, I am not going to stop wearing my Uggs. When I brought them I was aware of the consequences. I know that they did not have any type of support. Anyone can notice that just by taking a glance at them.
Recently, after everyone read the article posted on numerous sites such as yahoo, google, aol, and etc, they have been making a huge fuss out of it. Many teenagers at Red Bank Regional High School have come to the conclusion that they will no longer wear their Uggs. But, why? Ugg boots retail for $140 and up. These teenagers spent a lot of money on these shoes, only to say they are not going to wear them after reading facts on an article that was already known.
If my peers had a good cause to stop wearing them, then I simply would agree. Why not stop wearing them, because innocent sheep are being killed to produce these particular boots. If, they felt that they had no support, then they shouldn’t have brought them from the start.
My point for all of this is that the article was only stating what consumers already know. These experts are creating chaos among these teenagers for no reason.

  1. This is an interesting viewpoint. I wasn't exactly aware that Uggs were not good for your feet.... I thought they were just kind of like, slippers or socks... I don't wear Uggs, nor have I ever, but if I knew that slowly over time they would deteriorate the health of my feet, I probably would not buy them. So what you're saying is that people ARE aware, but do not care about the consequences. That's interesting. I'd think that most people would be right to be concerned, and be right to toss them no matter what the cost of the shoe was. Is suffering for fashion really worth it? My opinion is that, in this case, it's not. But your conclusion is the opposite. Interesting.
